But the inhabitants of the sea are not the only specialties of the island that you must discover. Indeed, wine is an important element. So to expand your knowledge on the subject and expand your palate, oenology courses can also be offered on the Île de Ré.

The Lilleau des Niges nature reserve, located north of the Île de Ré is a real corner of paradise where you can recharge your batteries in the heart of 121 hectares of nature. You will observe the diversity of the island’s fauna and flora through outdoor walks, guided tours, or thanks to the museum space of the Maison du Fier. Indeed, the nature reserve hosts more than 300 different species per year and is one of the most important wintering sites in France. The surroundings of the reserve are freely accessible and free of charge. La Maison du Fier opens every morning and afternoon from early July to early October except Saturday mornings, every afternoon during the All Saints holidays, and every day (with lunch break) except Saturdays and Sunday mornings in April, May and June. The visit to the Maison de la Réserve is chargeable, at the price of 4 euros full price and 3 euros reduced price.

The Parc de la Barbette, located around the city’s fortification, takes its name from the height of the ramparts. Indeed, these have the same height as the beards of the soldiers who made their rounds in order to see in the distance and to protect themselves in the event of an attack.
