The Lilleau des Niges reserve, an activity surrounded by nature!
The Lilleau des Niges nature reserve, located north of the Île de Ré is a real corner of paradise where you can recharge your batteries in the heart of 121 hectares of nature. You will observe the diversity of the island’s fauna and flora through outdoor walks, guided tours, or thanks to the museum space of the Maison du Fier. Indeed, the nature reserve hosts more than 300 different species per year and is one of the most important wintering sites in France. The surroundings of the reserve are freely accessible and free of charge. La Maison du Fier opens every morning and afternoon from early July to early October except Saturday mornings, every afternoon during the All Saints holidays, and every day (with lunch break) except Saturdays and Sunday mornings in April, May and June. The visit to the Maison de la Réserve is chargeable, at the price of 4 euros full price and 3 euros reduced price.

Guided tours are organized so that you can observe the methods used to preserve or restore the documents and take part in a demonstration of lining, filling, sewing, binding and gilding carried out on a wide range of raw materials. The parc de la Barbette
The Parc de la Barbette, located around the city’s fortification, takes its name from the height of the ramparts. Indeed, these have the same height as the beards of the soldiers who made their rounds in order to see in the distance and to protect themselves in the event of an attack. A place for walking, the park allows you to get some fresh air with the family. You will find games for children or even donkeys so that you can walk around while having a view of the sea. Located in Loix, come and discover the local fauna through the ecomuseum, classified as a Pôle Nature. Learn about the history of the Rhétais salt marshes and that of salt production. Throughout your visit, you will be told about salt production techniques as well as the specific plant species that are present in these marshes.
